Memorable Ways to Use Your Christmas Photos

The opportunity for Christmas photos only comes around once a year. Preserve those very special moments with Santa and his friends with these memorable ways to use Christmas photos.

I learned over the years that as our children grew older, the annual Christmas photo session with Santa became more of a valuable family asset than an errand. Those moments are frozen in time – just the kids and Santa with his helpers. Christmas photo time was often the only time I would manage to gather the clan into one happy snap that was worthy of keeping.

But what I also realised was that not many of our Christmas photos made it much further than a box in the cupboard once Christmas had passed. Then one day it dawned on me; that my Christmas photos should be made into valuable keepsakes not tucked away in a box. The effort took to stand in line every year and wait for that moment with Santa. The time my kids would sit still for five minutes for a brief chat with Saint Nick. It was well worth showcasing. It was time our Christmas photos came out of hiding.

I am sure this story resonates with many of you who have beautiful Christmas photos that deserve better attention. We’d love to share some wonderful ways to preserve and showcase those precious Christmas photos and the memories that come with them.

Christmas Photo Mural

Transform your individual Christmas photos into a Christmas photo mural. This following idea is perfect for when you have accumulated a number of Christmas photos over the years.

Here is how to do it:

  1. Start off with one of The Christmas Cart’s wreath bases or wreath frame. Or you could use any other wreath of your choice really. But we think these ones are the best choice for this activity.
  1. Using a backing like thick carboard (we recommend at least 350gsm), a piece of balsa wood (easily purchased at a hardware store), or corflute, trace the round circle from the middle of the wreath then cut out the circle of same size from your backing piece, adding a slight overhang (about 2mm round)
  2. When you have your circle cut, stick it to the back of the wreath. You could use hot glue or a staple gun if you chose a balsa wood base
  3. Next, fill the space on the inside of the wreath circle with your Christmas photos. Just glue them to the backing to make your desired mural design. Get copies made first if you don’t want to use your original Christmas photos for the project.
  4. Once you are happy with the design, you can give them a coat with clear sealant paint to protect the surface slightly, or leave them as-is (just ask your local hardware or craft store for an appropriate sealant paint)
  5. Then continue to decorate the wreath frame that is surrounding the Christmas photos. Some ideas you might like to use include artificial florals and other fake greenery, pinecones, repurpose tree decorations or Christmas ribbon and bows
  1. When you are done, you will have a lovely Christmas masterpiece made from all your Christmas photos to showcase on the wall each year. You can fill them up with your Christmas photos in ascending order of the year. Continue to make the murals as you accumulate more Christmas photos so you end up with a beautiful wall of memories to hang proudly each year.

If you have not accumulated a multitude of Christmas photos but are still keen to arrange a mural, you can display your Christmas photos in smaller, standard photo frames instead. You can get a similar collage effect by adding two or three photos into a lovely Christmas photo frame. Add a few frames together for greater festive impact.

Christmas Photo Tree Decoration

As an especially perfect gift from child to Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt or Uncle, turn your Christmas photo into a tree ornament to keep. Here are a couple of ways that you can do this.

Arrange your Christmas photo to an appropriate size and place it inside a Christmas photo bauble. You can go for an acrylic Christmas photo bauble, or add a more of a DIY touch by using a craft bauble for the project. Throw in a bit of extra sparkle by adding some Christmas craft supplies such as glitter or sequins/scatters inside or cutting small pieces of tinsel. Tiny Christmas bows would also work really well with this project.

A Christmas Photo to Take with You

There is no denying that Mums and Dads especially love a photo or two of the kids. Make their day by gifting a precious Christmas photo keyring featuring their special little someone. With this gift idea, they get to see their loved one every time they reach for their keys and your Christmas photo is not being wasted away.
