Christmas Décor Trends 2016

Rustic Christmas - Christmas at the jacksmans

There’s something truly magical about getting out our Christmas tree and traditional Christmas decorations every year, ones that have special memories. It is also nice to freshen up our Christmas decorations with a modern theme and look for inspiration in the current design trends. Here are the Christmas decorating trends we think are going to be very popular in 2016.

One of the really popular decorating trends we have seen this year is the use of mixed metals, particularly in furniture, home wares and fashion. You could pull back some of the Christmas decorating colours you use, to just silver and gold. A beautiful Christmas décor piece with a lovely metal finish are copper seed lights, giving a modern mixed metal look. Use brass, bronze and rose gold with Christmas lights to set off their metallic highlights. You can go all out or simply add a few statement pieces to your current collection of Christmas decorations.

A very popular colour trend in interior design and home décor is the use of soft greys and pale pinks which gives a soft luxurious finish. You can’t go wrong with pastels, pearls and greys, which you can mix with some natural elements or go high end with faux fur or crystal and silver, whatever suits your décor. If you think it looks a bit too feminine, mix these colours with black to add a unisex appeal to this Christmas decorating trend.

Bring a touch of luxury into your Christmas decorating with a black, white, silver and crystal theme. Mix this colour scheme with mirror and marble for a sophisticated Christmas decorating theme.

Invigorate your home this festive season by trying out some fresh décor elements. Bring your space to life with the use of natural elements such as florals, greenery or faux foliage. Create a fresh look with pinecones, forest creatures, owls and squirrels. Natural elements are influenced in our materials and textures including burlap, jute and twine which give a natural and soft feeling to your décor. Look how you can bring this look into your tree, centrepiece and table setting for a rustic feel to your Christmas décor. Enhance the décor you already have in your home with natural and brushed materials.

We’ve seen this popular décor look in kitchens and dining areas. It’s now moving across to the exterior of homes and outdoor furniture with quite a relaxed feeling. If you have a home with a Hamptons look – go for pieces with a driftwood finish, using beach inspired decorations  such as shells and starfish instead of traditional Christmas ornaments such as baubles. Hampton styles generally use soft blues and whites so try to use a neutral colour palette with elements of subtle blues mixed with burlap and natural elements.

Mixing Christmas with Existing Décor Items
We also like to mix our existing décor pieces with a few Christmas items. You might like to add a table top Christmas tree which softens your interior and brings a touch of Christmas while keeping to the colour theme already going in your room.

Take a look around your home and be inspired to revitalise your Christmas decorating to complement the décor you already have in your house. For more Christmas decorating trends and inspiration for 2016, head to our Pinterest page!
