10 Ways to Get into the Christmas Spirit

We’re always looking for ways to make the most of the festive season! Here are 10 of our favourite ways to get yourself and your family into the Christmas spirit this year.

  1. Create the smell of Christmas in your home by baking some Christmas cookies or mince pies. The scent of cinnamon, nutmeg and fruit will immediately create a festive atmosphere. You can also place Christmas scented candles around the house to keep the delicious smells wafting around your home when you’re not in the kitchen.
  2. Put on some Christmas tunes! Find your favourite cheesy Christmas carols and blast them out. Grab your family and have a sing along or a dance off!
  3. Give to a charity. Christmas really is a time to give, so find a cause you believe in and give them money, donations or your time as a volunteer.
  4. Create your own Advent calendar. It will give you something to look forward to very day leading right up to Christmas Eve.
  5. Decorate! Your home will feel far more festive with just a little tinsel, a few baubles and, of course, a tree.
  6. We might be in a hot country but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some of the traditional Christmas activities! Find your local Carols by Candlelight, pack a picnic with a thermos of hot chocolate or eggnog and have a picnic under the stars!
  7. On your way home drive or walk around the neighbourhood to look at the Christmas lights. You might even get some inspiration for your own home.
  8. Gather your friends and family and make a list of your favourite holiday films, then make some popcorn, get in your most comfortable clothes and settle in for a Christmas movie night.
  9. Get your photo taken with Santa. You’re never too old! Take a group of friends if you don’t want to go alone. It will be a fun memento for future holidays.
  10. Spend time with your loved ones. If your family or some of your friends are far away, take the time to send them a Christmas card telling them a few of the things that have happened to you over the past year. If your friends and family are near, make the time to see them. The holidays are a busy period but they’re the best time to be with the people you love.
