DIY Christmas Gift Ideas - Gift boxes wrapped in ribbon

There’s something special about receiving a Christmas gift that has been made by someone you love. Add a personal touch to your own gifts this year with these DIY Christmas gift inspiration.

Peppermint Bath Bombs

You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup Citric Acid(don’t panic, you can find this in the canning section of your grocery store or order it from Amazon!)
  • 10 drops Young Living essential oil  (I used Peppermint; be sure to use a pure therapeutic grade essential oil like Young Living)
  • 1/2 TB carrier oil (such as Jojoba, Almond, Grapeseed, or even Olive Oil)
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Cosmetic mica powder for coloring(totally optional)
  • Silicone mould or muffin tin

Method:

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the baking soda and citric acid. You can strain them through a sieve for a finer consistency if desired.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together your carrier oil and essential oil. Add to the medium bowl of powders and stir until well mixed. Add mica powder for colouring if desired.
  3. Using a spray bottle of water, mist the surface until slightly damp. Mix until it’s the consistency of slightly wet sand— it should clump together when pressed. Do not over saturate! If it’s too wet it will fall apart when you are taking it out of the moulds.
  4. Pack into moulds. I used both silicone for small heart shapes and a muffin tin for larger ‘pucks’. Be sure to add the mixture to the top of the mould and really pack it in there.
  5. Cover mould with a paper towel, and carefully turn upside down over a baking sheet covered in another paper towel. Gently tap the bottom of the mould if needed, and unmould the bath bombs. Cover with paper towels and let dry overnight.
  6. Package in an airtight container or bag so that your DIY bath bombs don’t lose their fizz, and enjoy!

Mini Cookie Snow Globes

You’ll Need:

Sugar Cookies

  • 2 cups of butter (room temp, set it out before you make)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp lemon extract
  • 6 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Other

  • Baby food jars
  • White sprinkles

Method:

  1. Cream the butter and sugar first, add the rest of the wet ingredients. Mix the dry ingredients in separate bowl, then add dry ingredients as you mix.
  2. Chill the dough for at least 4 hours in the fridge, overnight is best.
  3. Now that it’s chilled, take it out and set it on the bench for about 5 min before you work with it.
  4. Flour your base then roll out the dough to an even thickness and cut using Christmas cookie cutters. Cut an equal amount of circle cookies for the base.
  5. Bakein a (preheated) 190 degrees oven until golden. Cook time will vary with size and thickness.
  6. Decorate with icing and once dry, frost the circle bases and glue the shaped cookies on top.
  7. You may want to spray paint the lids of the baby food jars red or green.
  8. Glue the cookie onto the inside of the lid with icing, let it dry, then pour some white sprinkles into the jar then screw the lid on and flip it over to make shakeable and edible snow globes.
  9. Tie ribbon around the lid to finish off.
