Making Christmas Magical for Kids

The lead up to Christmas should be a time of excitement and magic for kids. Helping to make this time of year so special are the Christmas-themed activities that kids can join in with friends and family. If you’re not sure what to do with the children in your life this year, we’ve come up with five ideas to help get the ball rolling!

  1. Cooking – Kids love getting into the kitchen and getting their hands dirty! Choose an easy recipe that everyone loves (Christmas cookies are a great choice), give everyone an apron and get to work. To save on mess adults can measure out the ingredients before hand, then let the kids add each ingredient to the bowl and mix everything together. While you deal with more dangerous things like getting trays in and out of the oven the kids can have fun decorating.
  2. Craft – If you’re planning on making any of your own decorations or Christmas cards this year, why not make a day of it and get the kids to join in! Pre-cut anything you need to avoid little ones handling sharp scissors, then let their imaginations run wild with paint, glitter, ribbons, stickers or whatever you have at our disposal. You’ll have a great day and end up with some truly unique Christmas decorations to cherish yourself or give to loved ones.
  3. Wait for Santa – Make the countdown for Christmas even more exciting by tracking Santa throughout December with the NORAD Santa Tracker (http://www.noradsanta.org). If you have animal lovers in your home you can also watch Santa feed his reindeer (http://reindeercam.com/).
  4. Elf Shelf Sitter – Even Santa can’t be watching all the time, which is why he asks his elves to help out! Get your very own Elf Shelf Sitter from The Christmas Cart store and move it around at night to surprise your kids each morning – and make sure they’re behaving!
  5. Christmas Eve Box – The night before Christmas can feel like the longest night of the year for kids! Make the wait for Santa more fun by having a dedicated Christmas Eve box full of treats – special Christmas Eve pyjamas, your favourite family Christmas movie, maybe even one small present for them to open before the big day.
