Easy Ways to Make Christmas Magical for Kids

Christmas Magical for Kids - Santa dipping cookies to a milk with Boy and Girl Elf Sitter

The busy lead up to Christmas should be a time of magic and enjoyment for kids. Help make this time of year special with lots of Christmas-themed activities that kids can join in on. If you’re not sure what to do with the children in your life this year, we’ve put together this collection of great ideas to help make this Christmas season extra special for the young ones.

Christmas Elves – If you haven’t joined the popular trend already, adopt your own Christmas elf and begin a tradition that your whole family will enjoy. Get your kids their very own Elf Shelf Sitter. Their weighted base means they will sit well on the shelf and keep an eye on your kids to see whether they have been naughty or nice.

Christmas Fairies and Angels – other delightful and magical Christmas characters, such as Christmas fairies and Christmas angels, can certainly help to bring a sense of wonder and excitement to your Christmas traditions. The great thing about fairies and angels is that they can be a magical presence at any time of the year, not just Christmas, if you’d like them to. Fairies and angels can be used as Santa’s eyes-on-the-ground throughout the year to help to encourage positive behaviour and also expand your children’s creativity and imagination.

You might choose a free standing fairy or one that can be hung on the tree or anywhere in the house such as their bedroom.

Santa’s Magic Key –  another simple way to keep the magic of Christmas alive for the children in your family is the use of Santa’s magic key. This is the perfect idea for any home that doesn’t have a chimney, which tends to be the case in the vast majority of houses in the southern hemisphere where the weather is a little warmer. And it is especially useful where little people are particularly inquisitive and curious, and want answers as to how Santa will deliver their presents without a chimney!  The young ones will love the idea of a magic Santa key. Create a fun tradition and leave it out on Christmas Eve along with a special note for Santa or add a gorgeous personalised plaque to your front door so Santa knows exactly what to do.

Christmas Advent Calendars – Christmas isn’t the same for kids without an advent calendar to count down the days til the big day. There are many different ways that you can use Advent calendars to countdown to Christmas. Help the kids make their own or use a fun Christmas Advent whiteboard to mark off the sleeps until Santa arrives. For something extra special, our Santa Felt Advent calendar can be personalised with your child’s name and is a cute addition to your kids Christmas collection that will be treasured for years to come.

Christmas Craft – If you’re planning on making any of your own decorations or Christmas cards this year, why not make a day of it and get the kids to join in too! Let their imaginations run wild with paint, glitter, ribbons, stickers or whatever you have at your disposal. They’ll create some truly unique Christmas craft pieces and decorations to cherish yourself or give to loved ones.

Christmas Traditions – most importantly, it’s the family traditions that will make this season magical for your children; not the gifts. Things like putting up the tree together, leaving cookies out for Santa, going to the Christmas carols and visiting the Christmas lights are all activities that will truly make Christmas magical for the kids as they create fond and lasting memories of this time of the year.
