How to Create: Christmas by the Sea

Create a Christmas by the Sea - How to Create: Christmas by the Sea

Whether you celebrate Christmas sitting by a sunny coastline, rugged up in the snow, or in the bush or desert, there’s no denying that there’s something calming about dreaming of a beachside holiday.

By using the beach as a starting point of inspiration, using beautiful natural objects combined with a colour palette of seafoam green, whites and blue tones, we’ve created a Christmas by the Sea decor theme that exudes peace and tranquility.

What’s particularly great about this theme is that most of the decor items are interchangeable and can be used for your regular home decor to freshen either modern or shabby-chic style homes. Just add a few splashes of glitter and festive spirit to ring in the Christmas ambience!

  1. Burlap baby!

We absolutely love burlap as the central textile fabric in a Christmas by the Sea look. It has both a rustic, vintage charm yet is clean and simple – perfect for a contemporary look. Use a complementary combination of neutral toned fabrics, including hessian, burlap and canvas for your Christmas stockings and sacks, cushions, ribbons, garlands and to line the Christmas dining table!

  1. Burlap baby!

Sea foam green is the perfect colour for those homes that want an injection of freshness but nothing too overpowering. Sitting between blue and green on the colour wheel, sea form green is a fantastic core colour as there is a large scope for additional colours that will complement instead of clash. As such, you’re free to pick up knick knacks as you see them in various hues of aqua, sky blue, navy, white and mint green.

  1. Create that seaside sparkle

Picture yourself standing by the ocean, sand beneath your feet, staring out at the ocean. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face as you see it’s light reflecting off the waves of the ocean, sparkling and glimmering across the horizon. Use this image as a source of inspiration to add little bursts of glitter in your decor. While colour and natural elements such as wood, burlap and glass should be the core foundation of the theme, be sure to subtly introduce a glint in the corner of your eye through the use of copper seed lights, candles, and rainbow glass baubles.

  1. Bring the beach inside

And we don’t mean walking sandy feet into the carpet! Head down to the beach to collect some inspiration – find interesting shells of all different sizes, starfish, and pebbles and rocks in interesting textures. Use these with twine to create ornaments and garlands for your Christmas tree. Use washed up coral or pumice to make your own elaborate centrepieces, and dried up seaweed to deck the halls this Christmas!

  1. Festive florals

To balance out these natural decorations that you find yourself, add a selection of festive florals in seafoam greens and blues, as well as silver feathers and spiky tinsel sprays to add that element of sparkle that your Christmas decor requires!
