    Who says Christmas crafting is only for December? Christmas in July is a delightful way to bring festive cheer to the middle of the year. It's an opportunity to start your holiday projects early, enjoy themed activities, and create beautiful decorations without the December rush. Here are four fantastic Christmas crafts perfect for July!

    Christmas Village in a Jar

One of the most charming and easy-to-make decorations is a Christmas village in a jar. It’s a delightful way to bring a bit of wintery magic to your home during the chilly season. Plus, it makes a lovely centrepiece for your dining table, or incorporated into a vignette on a shelf, console table or side table. Here's a simple guide to help you create your very own Christmas village in a jar. What you’ll need:
    • An oversized vase or jar: Circular or cylindrical looks best. Check out your local dollar shop or second-hand store for affordable options.
    • White sand: This will act as the base for your village.
    • Miniature Christmas Village Light-Up Set (must be battery operated)
    Method: Step 1: Pour the sand First grab your jar and pour white sand into the base until it's about 10cm deep. This creates a nice flat surface for your village and gives it a snowy look. Step 2: Prep your lights Check that Christmas Village Light Up Set has fresh batteries. Nothing spoils the magic like dim lights! Step 3: Arrange your ornaments Place the ornaments inside the vase and arrange to your taste. Step 4: Hide the battery packs If your ornaments have external battery packs, make sure you’ve sufficiently dug them into the sand and aren’t visible. Step 5: Enjoy the magic Turn on the lights, step back, and admire your miniature magical creation!  

    Pink Christmas Dreams Shadow Box

It combines creativity and elegance, making it a unique decoration. What you'll need:
    • Screwdriver
    • Scissors
    • Ruler
    • Pen
    • Craft knife
    • Spray adhesive
    • Gold spray paint
    • Hot glue gun
    • Velcro strips or hook to hang
    Special pieces for this project:
    • White glitter EVA craft foam sheets
    • Keepsake shadow box (we used one from Kmart, but any similar shadow box will do)
    • Gold braid (enough to go around the inside border of the frame)
    • 2 x Tabletop Christmas trees (or other ornaments of your choice to display in your shadow box)
    • Decorations for the outside of the frame (we used rose gold and champagne glitter snowflake tree decorations)
    Method: Step 1: Dismantle the shadow box Carefully separate the shadow box into its individual components, so you can easily paint and decorate. If you are using the Kmart shadow box like we did, use a screwdriver to detach the frame, white card insert and clear plastic screen from the box. Use a craft knife or sharp tool to lift and remove the base plate of the stand affixed to the back. If you’re going to display the shadow box on a mantle or side table, you can leave the stand intact. Step 2: Paint the frame and box Spray paint the front and outer edges of the frame with your chosen spray paint (we chose gold). To avoid mess, work inside a cardboard box. Paint all four front sections of the frame, the two side edges, and the top edge. Let it dry completely before painting the fourth edge. Repeat the same process for the box, painting only the four outer edges. Let everything dry completely. Step 3: Prepare and place glitter foam Cut the white glitter craft foam into five pieces: one for the back, two for the sides, and two for the top and bottom edges. You can trace the outside of the box or measure the dimensions inside the box and transfer them onto the foam. Use spray adhesive to attach the foam pieces, starting with the back piece and then doing the sides. Step 4: Reattach frame to box and add trim Once the paint is dry, apply hot glue around the inside lip of the frame. Carefully position the frame over the edges of the box and press firmly to secure them together. Glue the gold braid around the inside perimeter of the frame where it meets the box. Trim any excess braid. Step 5: Attach hardware/ materials to hang (optional) Now is a good time to add any hardware you need to hang your shadow box. We recommend using self-adhesive velcro strips on the back of the box to ensure it hangs flat against the wall. You can also use a picture/frame hook if you prefer. Make sure the glue from the previous steps is completely dry before flipping the box over to work on the back. Step 6: Decorate the frame with finishing touches Use your hot glue gun to attach your chosen decorations to the outside of the frame. Let the glue dry completely before moving on to the next step. Step 7: Paint the base of tabletop trees (optional) If you’re using tabletop trees inside your shadow box, you might want to paint their bases white to blend in with the glitter foam background. Step 8: Hang and decorate your Pink Christmas Dreams Shadow Box Once your shadow box is complete and dry, hang it up and add your tabletop trees or other ornaments inside. That’s it!     Sugar Plum Mirror Table Tray

    • 1 x adhesive wall mirror (we used the Diana Self Adhesive Mirror from Kmart)
    • 6 x flat cupboard handles (we purchased ours from Bunnings - 40mm Square Round Knob from Prestige)
    • Spray paint
    • Spray adhesive & glitter (optional)
    • Paper
    • Painter’s tape
    • Hot glue gun
    Method: Step 1: Mask & paint Begin by masking off the mirror with paper and painter's tape to protect it from any overspray. This will ensure that only the frame gets painted. Spray paint the frame and the handles. We chose a beautiful rose gold, but feel free to select a colour that matches your Christmas decor. If you want to add some extra glam, you can spray the frame with adhesive spray and sprikle glitter on it after the paint has dried. Let everything dry completely. Step 2: Attach the handles Turn the mirror over and use your hot glue gun to attach the handles to the base. Place one handle in each corner. If you're using six handles, fix the additional two in the center of the longer edges to provide extra support. After gluing the handles, turn the mirror over and place a little weight on top to ensure the handles set firmly as the glue cools. Step 3: Style your tray Now comes the fun part - styling your mirror tray! We chose a Sugar Plum theme filled with pink, white and gold hues, and cute plush animal figurines, but you can opt decorations that fit whatever theme chosen. Consider incorporating candles, light-up ornaments, arranging florals and sprays in a vase, and festive figurines.  

    Sweet Gingerbread DIY Wreath

This can be made from various materials and can be tailored to fit any decor style, making it perfect for Christmas in July. We've chosen a bright and fun gingerbread theme, but don't let that stop you! Get creative to match your style. What you'll need:
    • Wreath base (such as our Snow Flocked Pink Fir Christmas Wreath)
    • 1 x 10cm wired ribbon
    • 1 x 6.5cm wired ribbon
    • Pieces for decorating:
      • 3x feature tree decorations - we used
        • 1 x gingerbread man
        • 1 x gingerbread house
        • 1 x cake slice
      • 4 – 5 lollipop picks (1 x large/medium size and 3-4 small-sized)
      • 4 – 5 brightly colored decorative baubles in various sizes and designs
    • Additional sprays and tree picks to fill the spaces
    • Craft Kit Staples: Hot glue gun, cable ties, pipe cleaners, scissors
    Method: Step 1: Ready your wreath Fluff and shape your wreath to ensure it's nice and full, ready to be decorated. Step 2: Big, beautiful bows Create a feature bow using the wired ribbons, leaving tails on both sides. Secure the bow to the wreath using a cable tie and pipe cleaner, positioning it at around the "10 o'clock" position. Shape the loops of the bows and position the tails to cascade down the wreath. Create a second bow using similar steps, affixing it at around the "4 o'clock" position on the wreath. Step 3: Add focal decorations Use hot glue to attach pipe cleaners to the back of your focal decorations. Secure the decorations to the wreath base, positioning them strategically to create balance and visual interest. Step 4: Add the big lollipop Insert the big lollipop pick near the feature bow, securing it with needle pines and optionally hot glue for extra security. Step 5: Add the baubles Thread pipe cleaners through the top of the baubles, then push them through to the back of the wreath and twist to secure. Step 6: Add other picks Fill in any remaining spaces with additional picks, deconstructing them using wire cutters if necessary to attach individual elements to the wreath. Step 7: Fill the space with small decorations and more ribbon Continue filling any gaps with small decorations, such as lollipop picks, and add more ribbon tails for a finishing touch. Be sure to distribute decorations evenly around the wreath for a balanced look. And there you have it – a Sweet Gingerbread Christmas Wreath that's sure to delight everyone who lays eyes on it!
