Butterscotch Hot Chocolate Christmas in July

Christmas in July means many things and one of our favourites is enjoying warm, tasty treats. What better way to celebrate the warmth with family and friends than with deliciously festive, winter-warming, drinks.

Hot chocolates the old fashioned way are a treat in themselves but we’ve turned up the heat with these indulgent variations on a classic favourite.

Butterscotch Hot Chocolate

This one if for the adults! Chocolate and butterscotch schnapps combine in perfect harmony for a simply divine Christmas in July night-cap.

Serves: 8

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1.25L (5 cups) milk
  • 350g dark cooking chocolate, melted
  • 160ml (2/3 cup) butterscotch schnapps (see note)
  • Ground nutmeg, to dust

METHOD

Step 1
Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until just before boiling. Use a stick blender to froth the milk.

Step 2
Divide chocolate among heatproof glasses. Add 1 tablespoon schnapps to each glass. Top with frothed milk. Dust with nutmeg.

Golden Turmeric Chai Latte

Delicious treats don’t always have to be overflowing with sugar. This Golden Turmeric Chai Latte is pure indulgence on a cold winter’s day. Just the thing to cap off a Christmas in July feast.

Prep: 0:10 Mins
Cook: 0:05 Mins
Serves: 2

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cinnamon stick or quill
  • 1 whole star anise
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
  • 2 cups (500ml) milk, soy milk or almond milk

METHOD

Step 1
Combine the turmeric, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise, fennel and vanilla in a medium saucepan. Season with pepper. Stir in milk. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Set aside for 5 mins to infuse.

Step 2
Strain through a fine sieve into mugs or serving glasses. Serve immediately.

Loaded Honey Hot Chocolate

How do you improve on something that is already pretty great? Load it up of course!

This Loaded Honey Hot Chocolate is packed with so many delicious, favourite flavours all crammed into one amazing beverage.

Prep: 0:10 Mins
Serves: 1

INGREDIENTS:

• 2 tsp honey
• 50g honeycomb chocolate bar
• 1 sachet Cadbury Instant Hot Choc Blend chocolate
• 200ml boiling water
• 5 marshmallows, lightly toasted
• 1/4 cup (60ml) double cream, lightly whipped
• 1 tsp vanilla bean paste
• Natural honeycomb, to serve (optional)

METHOD

Step 1
Brush edge of a heatproof serving glass with honey. Freeze for 10 mins.

Step 2
Finely chop half the chocolate bar and place in a small bowl. Cut the remaining chocolate bar into shards.

Step 3
Stir the hot choc sachet and boiling water in a heatproof jug until smooth.

Step 4
Remove glass from the freezer and dip the edge in chopped chocolate bar. Pour the hot chocolate mixture into the glass. Top with 2 of the marshmallows.

Step 5
Place cream and vanilla in a bowl. Gently fold to combine. Spoon over the hot chocolate. Serve with chocolate bar shards, remaining marshmallows and natural honeycomb, if using.

Strawberry Hot White Chocolate

Relive wonderful childhood memories with this re-imagined strawberry milk delight. Heat it up and dress-to-impress for a wonderful winter treat.

Cook: 0:05 Mins
Serves: 4

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 cup (60ml) strawberry topping
  • 4 cups (1L) milk
  • 200gwhite chocolate, chopped
  • 8 pink marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) thickened cream, whipped
  • Creative Kitchen Fairy Sweetheart Toppings, 1 tablespoon pink sprinkles only

METHOD

Step 1
Pour half the topping evenly among 4 heatproof serving glasses or mugs.

Step 2
Combine the milk and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat. Stir for 5 mins or until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth and heated through.

Step 3
Add remaining strawberry topping and stir to combine. Pour evenly among the glasses. Top with marshmallows and dollop with cream. Top with sprinkles. Serve immediately.
