DIY Not Quite Christmas Trees

DIY Christmas Tree made of wood - DIY Not Quite Christmas Trees

Is space a limited commodity in your household? A giant Christmas tree can overpower a small home, but that doesn’t mean you have to go without. For these nifty not-quite-Christmas-trees, all you need is a spare wall and a little bit of creativity!

 Ornament Wall Tree

How adorable is this star ornament tree, simply mounted on the wall with small, discreet nails? These wire star ornaments give a very understated, contemporary look, but you could use any ornament to fit with your Christmas decor theme. Choose a diverse selection of sizes and simple arrange in the shape of a Christmas tree. For easy pack-down, try some removable wall hooks, which can now be found in gold and silver at Target and Kmart.

Vintage Book Christmas

This understated tree is quite a novel-ty, isn’t it?
For the well-read Christmas enthusiasts, simply find an old book (perhaps a seasonal favourite that you have a double up of?), remove the pages, and arrange in the shape of a Christmas tree. Attach the pages with blue-tac. Alternatively, you could use pages from a fashion magazine or simply exciting pieces of scrapbook paper. Another great idea is to use photos of your family from throughout the year!

Interactive Felt Christmas Tree

Worried about your littlest elves breaking your keepsake Christmas ornament, or worse, pulling the whole tree down with it? Perhaps leave the heirlooms in their bubble wrap for the next year or two, and instead try this adorable interactive felt Christmas tree. Simply buy 2 metres of green felt, fold in half, and slice diagonally to create a Christmas tree shape, and fix to wall with blu-tac. Buy smaller pieces of other coloured felt and use a hot glue gun to create decorations. With the glue gun, attach velcro to the back of the decorations, and across the green tree. Mix and match decorations throughout the festive season!

Shabby Chic Tree Decoration

How sweet is this? Mix and match and assortment of homewares decorations including photo frames, candles, flowers and sculptures on a series of shelves shaped like a Christmas tree. Add a star on top and cover with some adorable homemade bunting for a touch of festive cheer!

Chic Branches Wall Tree

Collect an assortment of branches in different lengths. Using two pieces of rope or strong twine in equal length, tie knots around the edge of each branch, ensuring there is an equal distance between each knot. Hang the top from a hook in the wall, and nails at the bottom and in the middle to keep the shape in place. Adorn with fairy lights and kitsch ornaments in natural tones and metallics.

Twinkling Christmas Corner!

What better way to fill a nook or cranny? This DIY tree is sure to light up a room!

The important thing here is to measure carefully where you will be placing your removeable hooks. Decide the length and width of your tree, then measure equal distances from the corner and from the ground, so that the markings are symmetrical on each wall. Place a removable hook on each spot. However, instead of the hook facing upwards as if you were hanging a painting, have the hook on a perpendicular angle, facing away from the corner. Use a long string of fairy lights, or several, carefully weave around the hooks to create a symmetrical pattern. If you are using lights that require power, be mindful of keeping the power cord end at the bottom so that it can easily reach electricity.

Fantastical Floating Tree

How fantastic is this humble yet elegant floating Christmas tree? Add some magic to a plain wall by mounting some clear removable hooks in the shape of a triangular Christmas tree. If you live in a forested area, you could collect some natural foliage to drape over it – natives would look beautiful!
