Christmas Craft with GLITTER!

As a versatile Christmas craft must-have, glitter brings a fleck of magic dust to any Christmas crafted masterpiece. See for yourself with three of our top glitter inspired Christmas craft projects to try this year.

We all know that Christmas is a magic time of the year, and where there is magic there is always plenty of sparkles. And as a Christmas craft lover, if there is one thing that I can’t do without during this enchantingly, festive season, it is glitter – and plenty of it! In fact, the words ‘glitter craft’ just bring music (or jingle bells…) to my ears.

If you want to get serious about Christmas craft this season, look no further than a few humble pots of sparkle dust and glue. No good Christmas craft box can be without them.

So, why exactly do we think that glitter rules the Christmas craft school? Here are three easy Christmas craft ideas that feature glitter as the secret to success.

#1 Glitter-Dipped Pinecones

Yes, pinecones and Christmas craft usually work pretty well together. But throw in some glitter and you get a perfect symphony. Here are a few ideas on how glitter enhances any pinecone Christmas craft.

This Christmas craft idea is probably one of the simplest of all, but highly effective. Just dip the bottom half of a pinecone into some Mod Podge or similar glue (make sure the glue you use dries clear). When the glue is still wet, dip that end (or dip the whole thing if you want!) into a bowl of glitter. Rest it upside down and let it dry.

Transform your glitter-adorned pinecones into:

  • Christmas tree decorations – fix some string to the top and tie it off. A little piece of ribbon tied in a bow at the top of the pinecone finishes the look perfectly too
  • Table or hall stand statement piece – fill a glass bowl or vase with the pinecones
  • Place settings at the Christmas table – rest a personalised name card in the pinecone to be held in place

*  Tip: empty egg cartons make great Christmas craft aids for drying your pinecones as they hold the pinecones in place. If you want the glitter to stand out more, you could spray paint the area of the pinecone that you want to dip with white, or any other colour, paint first.

If you love this simple and gorgeous looking Christmas craft idea but perhaps are not so keen on getting up close and personal with large tubs of glitter, check out the range of pre-glittered pinecones from The Christmas Cart.

#2 Mistletoe Christmas Cards

This is a Christmas craft idea specifically targeted for people with children. Churn out some gorgeous glitter Christmas crafted cards just like the one we have featured below.

Here is how to get the look:

Lather the subject’s foot with Mod Podge and get them to stamp their wet print on some cardboard. Then working very quickly, sprinkle a heap of coloured glitter onto the print. Shake off the excess. Remember to also work very quickly to rinse the glue of your little (or big) one’s foot too!

Once the glue has dried and the glitter is set in place, add your choice of additional Christmas craft trimmings, such as ribbons and decorations.

You could do this Christmas craft idea on an adult foot too, you’d probably need a bit bigger piece of cardboard though and doesn’t quite have the same cute and cuddly feeling about it. We think it is such a great idea for the kids though, and rather than stashing it away when Christmas is done for another year (or throwing the card away), you could even laminate the front of the card and make it into a Christmas poster to use again. A cute little Christmas craft keepsake we think.

As an alternative to the above Christmas craft idea, and one for the big kids, draw glue onto your card then sprinkle it with glitter instead. Sticking to basic shapes is key to success for this one. A simple Christmas tree shape, stars or Christmas holly work really well. If you want to use different colours (e.g. a gold star on top of your green Christmas tree design), just do one colour at a time. Draw the shape, sprinkle the glitter, shake off the excess. Then draw the next shape and so forth.

#3 Glitter Tealights

As we mentioned earlier, Christmas is all about twinkle and sparkle. Tealight candles are another perfect fit here. But, tealight candles adorned with some Christmas craft and glitter are another level again. This is why glitter-dipped tealights have made our glitter Christmas craft list.

Here is how to do it:

Using a similar method to our Christmas craft pinecones above, you can dip the bottom of your tealight candles with glitter. We also love glitter-rimmed tealight candles or those that feature glitter on both the rim and the base. You can mix up the colours (top and bottom different) or use the same glitter for both ends. End of the day, the result is a twinkly, festive masterpiece that you can place just about anywhere around the home.

* Tip: mason jars also work great for this Christmas craft idea. Add a bit of sand inside the bottom of the jar before putting your candle into place. Coloured sand also brings another festive dimension if you want some added vibrance.
