Make and Create: Farm Fresh Christmas Pinecone Drop Bow

Farm Fresh Christmas Pinecone Drop Bow Feature

Add a touch of rustic festive cheer to any space in your home with this beautiful Farm Fresh Christmas Pinecone Drop Bow craft project.

So simple to create in just a few easy steps,  this lovely piece can instantly transform your mantle, bannister, or any other spot that is in need of a little warm and rustic Christmas charm.

Let’s get into it!

Get Your Supplies Ready

We said it was simple! All you need for this awesome Christmas craft project is:

  • 2 x 6.4cm wired ribbon – cut 2m of each. To compliment our Farm Fresh decorating theme we’ve gone with a black and white buffalo check and red and black gingham. Because there is not a lot of busyness in this piece having 2 patterned ribbons isn’t too overwhelming. In fact, we think it adds a level of detail and interest. But feel free to mix and match patterns, solid colours and textures to suit your decorating style.
  • 1 x Natural Pinecone Drop Trio – these also come in other colours/designs such as snow tipped, silver and gold.
  • 1 x decorative Christmas pick or tree decoration. This piece is optional but we think it is great for adding a little extra detail and interest in the centre of your bow. We’ve used a Fun Red and White Christmas Decoration Pick.
  • Scissors
  • 1 x cable tie
  • 1 x pipe cleaner
  • Hot glue gun (optional)

Step 1 – Make a Bow

Take your first piece of ribbon (this is the one that will sit at the back – we’ve used the black and white buffalo check) and make a pinch 60cm from one end.

Measure along another 40cm of ribbon and double it back to the pinch to create a loop. Measure another 40cm and do the same again to create the second loop.

When you bring the end of the second loop back in, make sure to pass the ribbon over to the opposite side of the pinch so that the loops and hanging pieces cross over at the pinch.

Step 2 – Make Another Bow!

Now you’ll make the second bow to sit on top using the exact same process. Place the first pinch at the centre of the existing bow and remember to cross the final piece over to the opposite side of the centre.

Keep hold of all pieces securely in the centre.

Step 3 – Tie It Up and Add Pinecones to Your Farm Fresh Christmas Pinecone Drop Bow

Now that you’ve got both the bows complete, take a cable tie and wrap it around the centre of your both of your bows.

Before you fasten it, feed the cable tie through the loop in the top of the Pinecone Drop Trio and start to tighten cable tie, but don’t tighten it all the way just yet.

Stop just short of pulling the cable tie completely closed and feed the pipe cleaner through cable tie loop so that it is even length on each side.

If you need to, swivel the cable tie join and pipe cleaner around so that they sit at the back of the bows.

Then proceed to fully tighten the cable tie, cut off any excess cable tie and twist the pipe cleaner around itself a few times to secure it in place.

Step 4 – Finishing Touches for Your Farm Fresh Christmas Pinecone Drop Bow

That’s the core steps of creating your Farm Fresh Christmas Pinecone Drop Bow. All that’s left now is to style it and make it look pretty! There’s a few simple things to do to really bring it to life and few options for making it your own.

Start by trimming all the raw edges of ribbon on an angle. Be sure to cut the paired ribbon pieces on the same angle for clean lines.

Then gently twist and shape the paired loose ribbon lengths to create flowing curls. The wired edges will help to keep your curls in place.

Finally, you might like to add a Christmas pick or tree decoration to the centre of your bow for a little extra decoration and festive flair. We’ve used a Fun Red and White Christmas Decoration Pick and used the wired end of the pick to twist it around the centre of our bow. You could also use hot glue if you need to, to secure your chosen feature piece.

Alternatively, you could add extra fullness to your bow by adding a 3rd ribbon/bow instead of a decoration in the middle.

Now all that’s left to do is to secure your beautiful Farm Fresh Christmas Pinecone Drop Bow to your chosen spot in your home. Use the pipe cleaner that you attached to secure your bow to the bannister, tie it to a garland on your mantle or anywhere else you can think of. These bows make gorgeous additions to the back of the seats at your Farm Fresh Christmas dining table or maybe on a door or door frame. The options really are endless.

As you can see, it is so simple to create a beautiful Farm Fresh Christmas Pinecone Drop Bow and then use it bring Christmas cheer to all the corners of your home. Have fun crafting and decorating with your own unique creations!
