#1 Re-Fashion a Decoration

We all love Christmas tree decorations, but it is not often that we keep the same decorations year after year. Whether that’s because it is time for a new Christmas theme, or just the fact the Christmas decorations are getting a little worn; once they are done with many decorations head straight for the bin. But that need not be the case with this Christmas hack! Re-fashion some of those old tree decorations into DIY Christmas gift tags. Following is a couple of ideas.

Select a tree decoration with a flat surface, like one of our wooden tree gift tags, then add a sticker to the flat side with your ‘to’ and ‘from’ message written on it. Next, tie the decoration to your gift and job done!

For a little more effort, or to completely transform a pre-loved decoration and bring it back to new, give it a coat of paint before adding your message (white or silver spray paint typically works well for re-coating). For this option, you can use a sticker again or write directly onto the surface. Either way, you have created a wonderful, re-purposed, DIY Christmas gift tag all from something that gets another lease on life.

#2 Easy Santa Gift Tags

This DIY Christmas gift tag idea is just as easy as it is effective, because you can’t really go wrong with Santa at Christmastime. And the best part is you probably have all that you need at home to make these gift tags already. And what a great idea for re-using old soft drink can ring pulls.

You can use some Christmas ribbon for the cute Santa belt, or a strip of black paper/cardboard. White cardboard would also look just as great for the base if you don’t have red on hand.

#3 Upcycled Paper Toilet Rolls

Make use of a household staple to create some super crafty and super swifty DIY Christmas gift tags. This is another great idea that is kinder on the environment and fun for crafters of all ages.

Simply cut round slices from an empty toilet paper roll. Then pinch them and fix into place, onto a piece of card to be used as a DIY Christmas gift tag. You can add some bling to the centre of your star flower for extra Christmas sparkle. If you need to hang your gift card onto your gift, add some string. Alternatively, these DIY Christmas gift tags can simply be fixed to your gift with a small piece of tape.

For another option, slice an empty toilet paper roll through the middle to open it out to a flat piece of cardboard. Use something round as a guide, like the base of a large tumbler or jar, to draw a circle on the cardboard. Follow your shape around with scissors to cut out a round piece of cardboard.

Once you have your round piece ready, decorate it as you please to make a DIY Christmas gift tag bauble design. Star stickers, lace, ribbon, twine and fabric make great options. You could also paint or draw patterns as part of your creation.

#4 KISS (Keep It Simple Silly)

Yes, yes, we have all heard this saying before. But here it is again. Often, less is more and we love the idea of this basic white card with a simple hand drawn design, like a Christmas tree or bauble and string. This DIY Christmas gift tag looks particularly striking on the plain black wrapping paper.
