Here is some Christmas DIY chandelier inspiration to get you started.

Hula Hoop Chandelier

With minimal budget and fuss you can make a Christmas DIY hula hoop chandelier. This project is great for getting the kids involved too.

What you need for this Christmas DIY:

  1. a hula hoop
  2. rolls of lace or a sheer material of your choice
  3. fairy lights (icicle lights work perfect with this)
  4. a hot glue gun
  5. a ceiling hook
  6. scissors

How to make it:

  1. Wrap your lace (or material) progressively around the hula hoop covering all of the plastic. Use the hot glue gun to fix the lace to the hoop as you go along
  2. Once the hoop is completely covered, tie extra lengths of lace from the hoop and pull upwards to gather in the centre. You need about eight lengths of lace evenly spaced around the hoop. When gathered at the top, this will form a spot to hang your DIY Christmas chandelier to the ceiling
  3. Finally, fix your fairy lights to the hula hoop. You can wrap them around avoiding the lace lengths or affix them to the outside of the hoop with some hot glue
  4. When you are done, fix your ceiling hook to the ceiling and tie off the chandelier lace lengths to the hook

If you have icicle lights, you can wrap them around the hoop as mentioned above. Or, just wrap them a little at the top and leave them to drop down longer for more impact.

Our silver bauble string lights work amazingly well with this project.

Bauble Chandelier

What is Christmas without Christmas baubles. Now there is a new way to feature these little gems – as a Christmas DIY chandelier.

This is another DIY Christmas idea that involves minimal effort. A perfect family Christmas craft activity or maybe you can use it to keep the kids out of your hair for an hour or two (!) as it is also easy enough for them to do.

What you need for this Christmas DIY:

  1. a large packet of Christmas baubles
  2. a roll of jute twine
  3. scissors
  4. a ceiling hook or place to fix your DIY Christmas chandelier

How to make it:

  1. Simply thread various lengths of jute twine through the hook in the Christmas baubles
  2. Gather them together leaving the longest strings at the bottom to form an upside-down triangle
  3. When you have enough baubles gathered, tie them together at the top
  4. Hang your DIY Christmas bauble chandelier and admire your work

This DIY Christmas decoration is great as you can change up the colours as much as you like. For some extra attention to detail you can also feature some different shaped Christmas baubles throughout your design.

  1. Start by filling your basket with greenery
  2. Follow by adding in your extra decorations – pinecones, glitter, gumnuts, Christmas baubles, etc

  4. Gather the rope at the top and fix to the ceiling hook

Bling up an Existing Chandelier

If your home already features a chandelier then you are in luck. Existing chandeliers provide the perfect base to work some Christmas DIY cheer onto. Here are some ideas and inspiration.

  • unusually shaped Christmas baubles look fantastic draped from underneath
  • glass baubles hung at various lengths under a chandelier made of the same material look like a crystal work of art
  • you can use fishing line, twine, lace or ribbon to hang the baubles. Of course, this depends on what type of statement you want to create and whether you want the lengths to be a feature
  • bling up the top of your chandelier with fern and greenery if space permits – I prefer silk greenery as it doesn’t wilt or drop pieces everywhere

This is DIY Christmas chandelier is made from an existing base. Greenery added to the top and glass baubles strung onto the bottom. They have used a mix of wire and fishing line to suspend their decorations.

This existing chandelier has also been decorated with baubles below and greenery at the top. A less fussy finish compared to that above.
