One of our truly favourite things about Christmas is the sheer delight and excitement that our children get with our kids magical Christmas traditions. In fact, the kids magical Christmas traditions that we refer to, are not just for kids at all. These kids magical Christmas traditions are made for the entire family to enjoy and embrace the wonder of Christmas season!

There’s certainly a tonne of things to love about Christmas. The tasty food and treats, the Christmas tree that sparkles with lights and adorned with beautiful Christmas decor, the festive songs, the Christmas ornaments around the home, and the Christmas flicks to name a few. But if you are looking for some kids magical Christmas traditions that truly embody a sense of magic and Christmas spirit, look no further than this very special list which our team at The Christmas Cart have put together.

Kids Will Love These Christmas Traditions

#1 Get merry matchy on Christmas Eve

Whether it is a set of Christmas socks and jocks, a special Christmas t-shirt or a personalised Christmas hat; arrange an outfit that matches with everyone in the family. Then wrap the outfits and place them under the tree ready for Christmas Eve. Gather the family around to unwrap these special gifts well before everyone goes to bed on Christmas Eve.

Once opened, have the kids get their outfits ready to don on Christmas Day. Matching outfits make a magical kids Christmas tradition even as your kids grow older. It creates a sense of family camaraderie and gives the littler kids something to get even more excited about. Plus, matching outfits always look uber cute in Christmas family happy snaps.

* Tip: often, we get too busy and forget to grab family photos when everyone is together. This is a great reminder for Mum and Dad to remember to stop and capture the special moment in time this year.

#2 Build your own Snowglobe

This kids magical Christmas tradition is best done in the lead up to Christmas Day as it generates some lovely Christmas decor to display around the home. Get the kids involved with creating their very own Christmas snowglobe.

Homemade snowglobes allow the kids to get as creative as they like, generating some added excitement about the big event. They can be created quite easily using a few simple pieces like an old jar and some Christmas craft supplies such as glitter, glue and an ornament.

To make your own snowglobe, see a full tutorial from Martha Stewart – how to make a snowglobe.

#3 Christmas Eve Box

Treat the young ones in your family to something extra with a special Christmas box for opening on Christmas Eve.

The Christmas Eve box should be filled with Christmas-themed goodies that will get them even more excited (if that’s possible!) for Christmas Day. Items like a personalised Christmas bauble or decoration to hang on the tree, a personalised Christmas stocking, a set of new Christmas PJ’s to wear for Santa’s official visit overnight, and a Christmas movie to keep them occupied while Mum and Dad are doing any last-minute Christmas catering preparations for the next day, are perfect. This magical kids Christmas tradition can be built on year after year as the kids get older and will always give them something extra to look forward to. What have the elves added to their Christmas Eve box this year?

#4 Christmas Cupcakes for Santa

Speaking of catering preparations – we know that when they are old enough, most kids love dabbling in a bit of baking. And, because he gets enough biscuits from all the other kids, turn this into a magical kids Christmas tradition by getting your little ones involved in making Christmas cupcakes for Santa instead.

You can either make the cupcakes first and get the kids to do the decorations on top, or have them involved in baking the cakes too. Just put on your special Christmas aprons and get busy together – either way, the kids will love getting involved knowing they have created something special for Santa to saviour on Christmas Eve.

* Tip: we recommend baking your cakes a day or two before Christmas so not to disturb you in the kitchen when you are at your busiest.

We’ve gathered a few Deliciously Festive Christmas Cupcake recipe ideas to get you started.

On Christmas Eve, have the kids set up their cupcake for Santa on a special Santa plate with his glass of milk or water.

#5 Reindeer Runway

For obvious reasons, it is very important that Santa finds his way to your front door on Christmas Eve. You can make sure he does with this kids magical Christmas tradition. Just guide Santa and his reindeer in with a reindeer runway!

Find a nice strip of grass on your lawn to create a runway. Don’t panic if it’s not a huge space as Santa is magical remember. Line up some glow sticks to create a path on the lawn so he knows where to go. Alternatively, you can run a couple of strings of fairy lights along the ground, or some Christmas solar spike lights. Placing them on each side of a driveway is also another great option for this magical kids Christmas tradition. Remember to leave a couple of carrots at the end of the runway for the reindeer to enjoy while they wait for Santa to deliver his Christmas gifts.

#6 A note for Santa

Each year, ask the kids to write a note to Santa telling him about their favourite things that happened that year. When they have written their note, each child places them into their personalised stocking or sack for Santa to read and keep. For the little ones who cannot write yet, pen a set of questions, and get them to give you answers to write for them.

The idea with this kids magical Christmas tradition is to keep these notes every year as gifts and keepsakes for Mum and Dad. You can look back and see how the views of your children change as they grow older. No doubt, you will find some precious memories worth bottling (or keeping on paper as the case may be).

#7 Christmas Gift Tags

Instead of buying new ones every year, create a magical kids Christmas tradition by getting the kids involved with making your own Christmas gift tags. Gift tags can be crafted very simply from items such as squares of cardboard, paint, pencils, Christmas stickers and glitter. Give the kids free reign to be as imaginative as they like. Then use their beautiful creations as gift tags for family and friends.

This kids magical Christmas tradition can be started as early as you like. And even better, it gives the kids something extra to do during school holidays and weekends too.

With a little bit of effort, a handful of imagination and a sprinkle of festiveness, we hope these magical kids Christmas traditions help to spark some ideas for you to create special memories with your family. Have the merriest, and the most magical Christmas you can!
