    • Fun and Free Christmas Activities for the Whole Family

    Christmas is a time for family and friends. And so it is important that you make an effort to plan plenty of fun Christmas activities that focus on get everyone involved and celebrating together. The most popular Christmas activities likely involve visiting Santa to share your wist list or carefully drafting a letter with the same intent, or both (just to make sure Santa is clear on the details!). Whilst this is obviously a very important task in the opinion of some family members, there are a whole lot more fantastic Christmas activities that your family can enjoy together during the Christmas period. Here is our list of fun and free Christmas activities the entire family can sink their teeth into for the holiday season.  

    Decorating the Christmas tree

    You are never too old or too young to get involved with decorating the Christmas tree. Make this a Christmas activity where everyone has a job to do. Let the younger kids decorate the lower part of the tree and those older arrange the Christmas ornaments at the top. Mum and Dad can fit the lights and tinsel if needed. Wait for everyone to be present before finishing the job with the Christmas tree topper.  

    Christmas playlist

    Christmas music is so varied these days that almost every popstar has their own Christmas hit. From Judy Garland to Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, and The Wiggles to name only a few. So, make this a Christmas activity idea for everyone to get involved in. Ask all family members for their favourite Christmas tunes, as old and daggy or as young and fresh as they like. Then, dedicate one of your tech-savvy kids to compile the Christmas song list.     Visit some local Christmas lights

    Gather up the team and go for a quick road trip to see some Christmas lights. The effort people put in to decorating their homes makes this an annual Christmas activity must-do. Check out some of the local hot spots to visit. Just Google Christmas Lights Competitions in your local area to plan your trip. And, if you have the time to dedicate, why not decorate your home too. From solar lights to lasers and LEDs, get everyone involved in putting out some Christmas cheer at your place.  

    Donate a gift to a charity organisation

    It’s the season for giving – if you have a dollar or two spare, introduce your kids to a new Christmas activity or tradition by giving a Christmas gift to someone they may never meet. Kmart’s Wishing Tree Appeal for the Salvation Army operates every year and is a great way to make a feel-good donation.  

    Make some Christmas table decorations

    Conjure up a Christmas activity ‘competition’ for all to be involved. Only limited by their imagination set the kids off to make a table decoration each. Using twigs and sticks from the garden, pebbles, shells, flowers and anything else they can find; sit back and see what wonderful creations the kids can come up with.  

    Get Christmas crafty

    There are so many great Christmas craft activities that you can do and there is definitely something for every age group. While the older kids are busy with their table decoration competition, the younger ones can enjoy making their own Christmas cards to give to friends and family, decorating a picture of a Christmas tree using a range of colouring and gluing. They might like to create a lovely drawing and letter to send to Santa or even their very own felt finger puppets.  

    Get your Christmas bake on

    From fudge to cookies, to gingerbread houses and Christmas cake, get the family involved with baking the holiday treats. And for the little ones? They can help decorate the baked morsels of yummy. The kitchen is a bustling hub of activity at Christmas time. Get everyone to share in the occasion.   No matter how much or how little Christmas activities you decide to do, the important thing is to choose activities that everyone can enjoy together.
