Juggling your Christmas in July fridge space

refrigerator full of healthy food. fruits and vegetables

Are you dreading having to juggle the fridge space? Our Glitter Fairies have found some helpful and functional tips on how to best juggle the fridge space if you are self-catering for your Christmas in July party! The week leading up to your Christmas in July party put your family on a mission: eat everything out of the fridge and freezer that is perishable and not being used for the party, thus freeing up fridge space. This saves you both space AND money, you aren’t throwing anything away and you get creative with cooking up innovative dishes!

Juggling your fridge space

  1. If you’re entertaining many people, hire an extra fridge or if you’re lucky see if any of your friends or family have a spare one!
  2. Remember how we spoke about sharing? Delegate some dishes to guests to bring that can be served on their arrival!
  3. Transfer all drinks to the esky and buy some ice the day before (if your freezer permits the storage). You can also clean out the toy storage tubs to make for extra drink storage space. If the weather is cold, take advantage by putting your white wine and bubbles outside to chill – and save precious fridge space. Fun tip: Freeze ice cubes in Christmas shapes from fun Christmas shaped moulds! It adds a little bit extra to your drink is a very adorable look!
  4. Leave purchases of perishables that wont expire immediately to within 2 days, to free up fridge space – most vegetable such as mushrooms and root vegetables like potatoes, carrots, parsnips and onions should also be kept out of the fridge; put them in a dark, dry cupboard instead.
  5. Delegate  a space for separate storage of cooked and raw foods to avoid cross-contamination
