Kids Christmas Games

Christmas Kids Smiling In Red Hat Lying DownSchool holidays are almost here! Are you searching for ways to make these Christmas holidays fun, active and engaging for your kids this festive season? We’ve found some games and activities that promise to be fun for all the family!

  1. Christmas Cookie Decorating. Christmas time usually means lots of cooking, especially if you’re thinking of baking some of your presents! This activity has the dual benefit of keeping your kids busy and creating potential presents that have an extra personal touch – just so long as they survive long enough to be given out! Once you’ve baked and cooled the cookies (kids can help mix, but most of the baking will be an adult activity) lay them out on sheets of baking paper with the icing decorations in small bowls. You can be as creative as you like with the toppings – anything from melted chocolate to buttercream icing in multiple colours, through to hundreds and thousands, nuts and icing sugar. Then simply hand out butter knives or Popsicle sticks for spreading and give the kids free reign! You can reward them for their good work when they’re done with a beautiful biscuit of their choice.
  2. Create a Christmas Story. This is the kind of activity you can do with one child or a whole group. Set the scene and choose the characters, then let your child’s imagination run wild! Armed with a notebook and some coloured pencils they can make up the most creative Christmas story they can think of and then read it out to you when they’re done. If you have more than one child, encourage them to write a sentence each, or have one write out the story while the other does the illustrations!
  3. Pass the Parcel. This classic game works just as well at Christmas as it does for birthdays. If you’re hosting a party, wrap a series of presents into one big parcel – all with Christmas wrapping paper, of course! Then have the children sit in a circle and pass the parcel around until the music stops!
  4. Christmas Memory Game. Place around 10 or 15 items in a big box. It doesn’t matter what they are – toys, decorations, kitchen utensils, anything! Let the kids look in the box and memorise the items – about 30 seconds – then take the box away and remove a few of the items. Bring the box back and ask the group to write a list of what’s missing, naming as many as they can before time runs out. Whoever has the most correct items wins!
  5. Backyard Cricket. There’s nothing like a good game of backyard cricket at Christmas time! The whole family can get involved, and all you really need is a bat and ball. Make a wicket from a garbage bin if you’re at home, or a stick in the sand at the beach. Just make sure you stay sun safe and remember the rules – no one can get out on the first ball, and over the fence is six and out!
