Games to Play on Christmas Day

Christmas Day Games - A little girl holding a metal stick and a boy standing infront of her

In between opening presents and eating Christmas dinner, what will your family be doing? If you’re not sure how you’ll be keeping everyone entertained we’ve got you covered with these fun games to play on Christmas day!

Backyard Cricket
A classic Australian Christmas game that the whole family can enjoy! Set the stumps about 10 meters apart, using rubbish bins or overturned buckets if you don’t have proper stumps. Grab at least one bat and gather everyone in the backyard. Decide who will bat and bowl first and get started! Remember – nobody can get out on their first ball, and over the fence is six and out!

Christmas Stocking Challenge
Fill a stocking with small gifts and treats and tie a ribbon around the top so no one can see inside. Then challenge your family and guests to guess what objects are in the stocking. Hand the stocking around and let people feel what’s inside, then write down how many items they think are in the stocking and what they think the items are. The closest guesses get to choose their prize from the gifts in the stocking.

Christmas Carol Charades
Put a holiday spin on this classic party game by limiting the charade choices to the names of Christmas carols. Write the names of the carols on small pieces of paper and place them in a bowl. Pass the bowl around and let everyone choose their carol one by one. Then the only thing left to do is get dramatic!

Human Christmas Tree
Get a bit silly on Christmas day by making one of your family members a living Christmas tree! Using green crepe paper, ornaments, tinsel—whatever you can find—decorate your tree. Add a bit of competition by diving the family into teams and seeing who can pile the most decorations on their tree.

Pass the Ornament
Divide the players into teams. Place a bowl for each team on a table across the room or garden. Give the first players an ornament to place under their chin. The teams must pass the ornament from the first player to the end of the line using only their chins and chests – no hands or arms allowed! Once the ornament has reached the last player, that player runs to the front of the line and drops the ornament in the bowl on the table. The first team to finish wins!
