It’s December, which means it’s time to put up the tree! Decorating the tree is a well-loved family tradition for many households, and the Christmas tree is bound to be the focal point of your decorations, so naturally you’ll want it to look as stunning as possible. With that in mind, we wanted to share some decorating ideas to get you inspired.
The secret to making your tree look its best is decorating in layers. The very first thing you should start with is the Tree Skirt. This is a great item because it hides the tree stand and any cords that are hanging around the bottom.
The next layer should be the Christmas lights. Wrap the lights around the tree starting from the bottom, and work your way up to the top. Putting the lights on first will mean that when you turn them on your tree will be illuminated from the inside out, and the light will catch the colours from your other decorations, creating a beautiful and dynamic look. Plus the other decoration will help to hide the wires!
Next up come the garlands. Whether you have tinsel, berries, paper ribbons or bauble garlands, put them on now. Garlands are beautiful and dramatic, but you don’t want your individual decorations getting covered. Start from the top this time, and drape the garlands downwards. Remember to start small, and use more as you get towards the bigger, thicker branches in the middle and at the bottom of the tree. If you have a decorating theme, finding garlands in matching colours is a great way to tie your tree in with the rest of your home.
Now you can finally hang your ornaments! Most people have personal ornaments that mean a lot to them. These should go on first, in pride of place. Then your other ornaments can go on. Generally it’s best to put the biggest pieces on first, so the smaller ornaments don’t get lost!
