Christmas Décor Trends 2019

Christmas Decor Trends 2019

Welcome to our review of Christmas décor trends for 2019 where we look at the current home décor and styling trends to gain an understanding of how these looks are likely to be interpreted in Christmas décor for the coming season. We will share with you our findings from our hunt for fresh new ideas at all the home and gift fairs we attend, not to mention the hours spent devouring home décor magazines, websites, our favourite social media accounts and of course, Pinterest.

Each year home décor is differentiated by key colours and 2019 is no different. This year there are 2 colours in particular that we think will be showing up on some of the most stylish Christmas trees around the globe.

Pretty in Plum

The first colour that we think is going to really make it’s mark in Christmas decorating is plum. Plum is being used in a huge range of home décor products from cushions to vases, right through to fashion in clothes and accessories. There is no doubt, plum is definitely one of the hottest colours in both the home and fashion in 2019.

Plum is a very red purple, it works beautifully with the deeper tones of burgundy, which is darker red with a tinge of purple. Both of these colours are a moodier take on the classic red Christmas.

The perfect way to breaking up these two pretty intense colours is by using another very popular colour at the moment, blush, or soft pink. In this colour palette, blush provides a welcome relief giving it a lightness and freshness whilst still keeping a sophisticated and feminine feel.

We think you are going to see this colour palette in homes, or in rooms within homes, that are looking to incorporate their existing blush home décor with their Christmas décor, or perhaps those that want to decorate for Christmas with a touch of traditional red, but with a more contemporary twist.

Shimmer with Sage

The second on-trend colour that we think is going to be prevalent in Christmas décor this year is sage. Sage is a soft greyish green colour. It is also a wonderful herb, and this is where the colour sage gets its name.

It has been so popular that when Pinterest released their top 100 searches, decorating with sage was a favourite search.

Sage varies in lightness and saturation. It can be earthy and warm or cool and silvery, and like many muted colours is very versatile. It’s at home when mixed with rustic warm natural elements as well as metallics, reflective and shimmering finishes.

It’s a great option for those looking to add a subtle pop of colour in an otherwise monochrome colour palette. When it comes to Christmas is perfect for those wanting a magical wintery feel with snowflakes and frost but perhaps bringing a bit more personality to it. Sage is a wonderful way to combine rustic and luxurious elements.

Fa la la la la Llama

Now our third hottest new home trend that we think is going to have a major impact on Christmas décor in 2019 has nothing to do with colour palettes, instead, it has everything to do with a cute domesticated South American animal — a.k.a. the llama.

From tea towels to artwork, bedding to backpacks, you may have noticed that the friendly, fluffy Llama is making its mark in home décor at the moment.

And we believe this is certainly going to transfer over to Christmas. The Llama’s cute face and soft fur lends itself very well to Christmas whilst also providing a wonderful opportunity to incorporate a South American flavour to your Christmas décor.

The bright colours and rustic textures bridge the gap between playful Christmas decorations that appeal to the young and the young at heart, and the stylist who enjoys using natural, ethnically inspired and a touch of the unexpected, when decorating for Christmas.

Deck the Christmas Kitchen

Our fourth and final prediction for Christmas 2019 is the incorporation of Christmas décor in the most important room of the home at any time of the year, but particularly at Christmas, the kitchen.

Our contemporary open plan homes mean that the kitchen is now a focal point in our living spaces and therefore needs to be incorporated in our Christmas decorating. Hence, we’ve seen a lot more activity on Pinterest and You Tube from decorating enthusiasts adding lovely touches of traditional Christmas décor through their kitchens.

And so, we expect you’ll see lots of decorations and ornaments that lend themselves beautifully to a kitchen setting. They maybe cute tree decorations made from cookie cutters, traditional florals hung from kitchen cabinetry or gorgeous ornaments to sit on the kitchen bench tops and other little nooks and crannies in the kitchen.

So we hope you’ve got some great ideas that will help you embrace some of this season’s new Christmas décor trends into your Christmas decorating this year.
