The countdown to Christmas is on! Enjoy the atmosphere and excitement in the lead up to the big day by creating a celebration countdown calendar of activities and events to make the days and weeks leading up to Christmas even more special.
As far as we’re concerned there’s no need to wait until December to start planning and enjoying Christmas countdown activities! In fact, by starting your seasonal calendar a little earlier, by the time December rolls around you’ll probably be far more organised.
To give you some inspiration we’ve thought up some festive activities to help get you in the Christmas spirit and make the most of the season.
October
It might seem like Christmas is ages away in October, but this is the perfect time to start searching for presents, planning your holiday parties, and writing out Christmas cards.
If you have a special dinner or desert dish you’ve always wanted to serve at the Christmas table, now is the perfect time to give it a test run. If it goes wrong, you have plenty of time to tweak the recipe until its perfect. If you get it right the first time, bonus! You have a delicious treat ahead of time.
You can also look around for gift ideas before the Christmas rush. If you see something you like, grab it now and hide it away until the time is right. Otherwise you can just gain inspiration for those hard-to-buy-for people in your life!
November
By now it really is starting to feel like Christmas is just around the corner, and you can move onto phase two of your countdown activities.
Create a playlist of your favourite seasonal songs and listen to it while you bake a batch of Christmas cookies to share amongst family and friends. Or invite people over to watch some of your favourite holiday movies and discuss your Christmas plans.
If you want to make some of your own decorations now if the time to get on it! Visit your local craft shop to stock up on supplies and have a ‘crafternoon’ with friends. Kids love creating their own special decorations for the tree, so this is a wonderful activity to get them involved in too.
December
The festive season will be in full swing now! Put all your hard work to beautiful use by putting up the tree and decking the halls with all your decorations! You might even want to get a fresh tree if that’s your tradition – or if you want to try something new!
If you have kids – or even if you want to do something special for yourself – why not find a traditional Christmas book like A Christmas Carol and read a little every night in the lead up to Christmas Eve?
Create special outings and events. For example, you can take a trip around your neighbourhood and check out the Christmas light displays, or pack a picnic dinner and go to see the Carols by Candlelight.
