Decorative Duct Tape Ribbon

The Reject Shop, craft shops and two-dollar stores generally have an array of decorative tapes available. Pick up a few different styles – the thicker the better (but of course this depends on the size of your gifts). Wrap your Christmas gift in plain monochrome wrapping paper, and then use the tape like ribbon in the shape of a cross or diagonally across the rectangle.

Use Shells as Embellishments

This gift wrapping style works fantastically with a Christmas by the Sea themed home decor (LINK). Collect shells or other natural elements such as pine cones, starfish, dried seaweed, dried flowers, and so on. Use a natural palette of cream gift papers, burlap ribbon (LINK), and twine to wrap your gifts, and attach your shells and a gift tag.

Add Glittering Floral Sprays and Picks

A glitter-lined poinsettia or pine cone is the perfect way to add a touch of sophisticated glamour to your Christmas gift wrapping. There are a range of sprays and picks available on our website, so choose an assortment to suit your theme.

Use Lace as Ribbon

For a touch of vintage Hollywood glamour, use off cuts of various laces as an alternative to ribbon around your gifts. Choose a key colour and use varying hues of this for your wrapping paper and laces, choosing one darker and one lighter for contrast. Top off with a vintage style gift tag and you’re done!

This Christmas gift wrapping looks great in an Elegant Christmas themed household.

Embellish Gift Bags

Got an obscurely shaped item or not a fan of folding paper and fiddling with tape to get a cleanly wrapped present? Just because you’re using a gift bag doesn’t mean your gift wrapping should be boring. With a hot glue gun and some leftover fabrics, you can make an awesome creative Christmas gift bag. Have a look at this tutorial here.

Use Newspaper as Gift Wrap

The simplicity of black and white newspaper looks great under the tree, especially with a little dash of glamour on the gift tag – these scalloped ones look great.

Confetti or Glitter Embellishment

Wrap your gift in plain brown or monochrome paper, and then use double sided tape to carefully wrap around the width of your box. You may wish to do multiple stripes, or crossover to emulate gift-wrapping ribbon. Peel off the second side of the tape in increments, and sprinkle with coloured confetti, or glitter – be patient! This may take a while but the results are gorgeous.

Striped Paper Straw Embellishment

Red and white stripes are a quintessential Christmas motif. To get this look, purchase inexpensive striped straws from a party shop or online. Wrap your gift in plain white wrapping paper, and use red twine to wrap around the box like you would a ribbon. Crossover between 4-8 straws, depending on how big you want your embellishment, in an asterisk pattern. Secure with the red twine, and voila! A modern take on the snow flake that suits any simple, Scandinavian-esque Christmas theme.

Make Your Own Stamped Gift Wrap

A great craft activity with the kids, all you’ll need is a ream of brown craft paper, some acrylic paints in varying colours, and some Christmas stamps. Make these yourself out of potatoes, or purchase them online, then get stamping! We like to make a few different styles in contrasting colours, as these look great together all under the tree!

Woven Paper Gift Topper

For a very unique ribbon, why not make your own out of coloured paper? Take a look at this great tutorial, which creates a bright, beautiful result that anyone would be excited to receive!

Chalkboard Christmas Gift Packaging

This is a very cute, simple Christmas gift wrapping idea for a those among you with some illustration skills. Simple use charcoal coloured craft paper to wrap your gifts, and use white markers, pencils and crayons to create a chalkboard look. Draw on Christmas ornaments, snowflakes, wreaths, antlers and bows, and write your gift recipient’s name on there. An adorable, homemade look!
