Festive party season is here! Whether you’re hosting, helping, or simply want to try something a bit different, mix things up with your drinks menu this year using some of these fun Christmas drinks from around the world. 

coquitoPuerto Rico – Coquito: Tropical Coconut Eggnog

You’ll Need:

  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 ounce) can cream of coconut
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup white rum
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method:

  1. In the top of a double boiler, combine egg yolks and evaporated milk. Stirring constantly, cook over lightly simmering water until mixture reaches a temperature of 71 degrees Celsius. The mixture should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  2. Transfer mixture to a blender, and add cream of coconut, sweetened condensed milk, rum, water, cloves, cinnamon, and vanilla. Blend for about 30 seconds. Pour into glass bottles and chill overnight.

bombardinoItaly – Bombardino

You’ll Need:

  • 1 part brandy
  • 1 part eggnog
  • hot espresso coffee
  • whipped cream, to serve

Method:

  1. Place brandy and Advocaat in an Irish coffee mug.
  2. Top up with hot espresso or hot coffee, give a stir and adjust to your taste.
  3. Serve hot with whipped cream on top.

sorrel-punchJamaica – Sorrel Punch

You’ll Need: (Makes 10 Cups)

  • 2 ½ cups dried sorrel
  • 3 oz fresh ginger, grated
  • 5 pimento berries
  • 10 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • ¾ cup white rum

Method:

  1. Place sorrel, ginger and pimento berries in a large pot or mixing bowl
  2. Pour boiling water over the ingredients; stir and place in fridge overnight to steep
  3. Using a large strainer, pour the steeped liquid into another container; use a spoon to squeeze more liquid out of the sorrel
  4. Add sugar, lemon juice and rum to sorrel and stir until sugar has dissolved
  5. Enjoy over ice

cola-de-monoChile – Cola De Mono (Monkey’s Tail)

You’ll Need:

  • 1 L whole milk
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1 vanilla bean, split from end to end
  • 2 whole cloves
  • ½ cup
  • White sugar
  • 3 tablespoons instant coffee

Optional

  • 1 cup brandy or rum 

Method:

  1. Using a 2L saucepan bring the milk, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, and cloves to a boil.
  2. Remove from the heat once it begins to boil.
  3. Stir in the sugar and instant coffee. Allow to cool and then add the brandy or rum, if desired.
  4. Remove the whole spices before serving. Serve chilled or warm.
