How to Create a Naturally Elegant Christmas

Create a Naturally Elegant Christmas - How to Create a Naturally Elegant Christmas

If you’re looking for something unlike the traditional Christmas decor, yet still classic and sophisticated, this modern and simple Naturally Elegant Christmas theme is absolutely perfect for you!

This theme incorporates and unique blend of moody, dark and earthy elements which blends effortlessly into modern homes with grey and neutral furnishings.

Follow these five simple guidelines to help you create your own naturally elegant Christmas.

  1. Silver! All that glitters is not gold – in fact, for a contemporary yet elegant Christmas theme, choose silver. We like to use a majority of matte silver finishes in our baubles, complemented with metallic and glittery or textured statement Christmas ornaments.
  2. Christmas motifs made unique materials. For a naturally elegant Christmas we love to use Christmas motifs, such as stars and snowflakes, but reimagined in natural timbers, rusted metals or brushed tin. It’s also great to bring some of the outdoors in with small embellishments, such as to the Christmas table centrepiece, of pine leaves or natural flora. Combined with silver and a few sparkly elements, this unique combination is incredibly fresh and simple.
  3. A little bit of bling. While one of the main draw cards of this theme is that it is understated, it is obviously still Christmas time. Of course, you want to distinguish your Christmas embellishments from your regular home decor in order to create that truly festive feel. As such, a few injections of glitter, crystal or sequins shall never go astray. We adore crystal-embellished snowflakes hanging from the tree, as well as incorporating glitter leaf, fern and feather sprays in our decor.
  4. Indigo as a central colour. This theme works well in modern homes that already have a somewhat neutral palette. However, working with one statement colour always makes decorating decisions easier. This year in home decor and fashion, indigo seems to be popping up all over the place. We love this, as this dark purpley-blue is easy to work with, and you can choose from up and down the hue scale from sky blue across to mauve. Home decor trends change regularly, so it’s good to incorporate these with items that you can replace each time you feel like refreshing your look. Think complementary Christmas decorations, place mats, cushion covers and so on.
  5. Luxurious textiles. The simple colour palette of this theme means you can afford to be more bold with your use of texture. In addition to adding a little bit of bling, incorporate some elaborately embellished and embroidered textiles, such as for your stockings and tree skirts, or on the Christmas dinner table with your runner or placemats.
